What seemed chaotic at first came together step by step and made sense at the end. I enjoyed the acting very much. A good time!
Five characters in search of a plot. Some beautiful touches. Lovely tree analogy. Acting was great. Jarring cut and pasting of other writers. Was it written by A.I.? Lacked a central conflict. Seemed unnecessarily down on love. Totally worth $5!
I was mesmerized by the blue monkey love cuts. My only regret is that I started discussing trees (full disclosure, I have read the “The Overstory” by Richard Powers several times) with some attendees and I missed out on congratulating all the performers. WEIRD and wonderful performances and songs. Trees, Eagle Death Spiral and Blue Monkeys… “just let go” and you will enjoy this show.
Experimental without being obtuse, blue monkey love cuts manages to walk that sweet, cerebral line between being philosophical and irreverent; fun and poetic. If you enjoy theater that makes you think, smile, and reflect, then it’s an entrancing experience that’s easily worth ten times the $5 entry. But if your expectation for a Fringe performance is something more vanilla, then save your money and rent another episode of Downton Abbey.
Except for the male singer/guitar player whom I found lovely, the remainder of the piece I found painful & chaotic & not worth the $5 admission fee.
Lots of action going on in this engaging presentation. Multi character collage unravels in the woods. Interesting characters and dialogue as well as some nice musical accompaniment.
This show is WEIRD in all the best, fringiest ways. Definitely a quintessential fringe experience. Although very out there, the performers are really compelling and committed so it successfully veers away from some of the common pitfalls of experimental theater. Just sit back and enjoy the absurdity!
