Gabriel greeted and hugged most of the audience on the way in, giving it the feeling of a wake. I felt a little odd at first as the only ‘stranger’ in the room but that feeling quickly faded.

It was delightful to listen to Gabriel’s stories of he and his mom and feel the love these two quirky souls had for each other.

We knew Sandy was dead yet there was a reveal that surprised me.

Gabriel expressed a full range of emotions. I was probably crying as much if not more for my self – than for him. Tearing up now for everyone who is holding in conflicting feelings about their mother and the power of story telling as a way to connect to our buried self.

A Fringe show that made a deep impact.

It was entertaining to hear Gabriel share these stories about his exceptional mother. But they haven’t been transformed into theater.

What a pleasure to hear Gabriel in his own voice share stories of his mom‘s life. Sandy Diamond was truly a wonder, and his reminiscences and storytelling style captured their unique relationship and her incredible life. A vulnerable, intimate tribute. Thank you to the Exit theater for making space for this kind of multimedia, personal art.

Gabriel is a natural born performer, story teller and loving (and loved) human being. The show about his single mother (by choice) relationship to incredible struggles as well as boundless creativity and love is very moving.

Although it was just one night at The Exit, there’s one more show:
on Sunday August 24th. TELL YOUR FRIENDS!:
This is also a gallery closing show and sale of over 100 of his mom’s calligraphy pieces!

Super real, poignant, beautiful, made me cry. Came with my own mom and it definitely makes me cherish the moments I still have with her. Gabriel has a knack for improv and relating to the audience in the moment which made it come alive.

Incredibly sweet. Incredibly touching. Don’t have a single parent like Gabriel’s mom but boy, was I bawling by the end of it.

Gabriel’s vulnerable, funny, and heartfelt shares made me fall in love with his mom. Both she and Gabriel now reside in my heart with joy and magic. Magnificent story telling about a truly remarkable mom and her unique relationship with her son. Highly recommended.

A truly beautiful collection of stories and memories that highlights all the ways that grief is experienced: the jokes, the weight, the love and the tears. I’m glad to get to experience the light of Sandy Diamond through the telling of Gabriel. I left feeling closer to my own grief and am grateful for that.

“Some things you should know about my Mom” is a beautiful, poignant, humorous reflection of the mysterious and magical journey one has with Mother and her love and ultimately let’s us all feel the vulnerability and celebration of our own childhood and parenting.

“We never get to hear of or from the single mother or her child. This perspective is left out of the American Theatre and Gabriel is bringing it to light.”

“Performed with understated power by Gabriel Diamond, it’s a movingly beautiful, heartbreaking tribute to not just Gabriel’s mother, but all mothers who raise children with
courage, love, humor, and self-sacrifice. Throughout the piece, Diamond moves
from awkward son to powerful mourner. His grief chokes him at times; his
performance is infinitely poetic.”

“It was told in such a personal and simple way that you really hung on every word.”
