PERFORMANCE: We Love Sam
There was a point several years ago when you couldn't
trip in this town without stumbling over a production of a
Sam Shepard play. Granted, those days are long gone, but
the City still loves its Sam, and whenever a play of his is
produced around here, the reception is generally huge.
You may have noticed this phenomenon last season with the
sold-out success of director Val Hendrickson's "Suicide In
B-Flat" that played for several months throughout the City.
The Exit Theatre sure noticed, and they're hoping the
director can re-create that magic with a production of "La
Turista."
Like "Suicide...," "La Turista" is early Shepard, meaning it's
a trippy tale, and this trippy tale happens to be about two
guys on a trip. Woah is right. This is theater of the absurd,
1967-style -- as opposed to 1966 -- and will especially
appeal to those who prefer their exorcisms accompanied by
decapitated roosters. If you don't, that's OK, too. -- David
