- Traitor to the Cause In the
first act of local playwright Terri Kasch's new play,
Greenwich Villager Kieran March encounters a
presumed-dead friend from grade school, gets assaulted,
tries to write a eulogy for his dead sister, discusses
homosexuality with his fake wife Alice, ponders
homelessness, and argues with his brother over what
to do
about the eerie blue wraith that's recently begun
haunting his
apartment. By the second act, Traitor to the Cause's
spider
web of story lines feels more like a novel than a
play, and
Kasch's writing works up a rattling momentum that
by curtain
is more cryptic than compelling. Intense performances
sparked a few shimmering moments, especially in the
ghost-communication scene, but a convoluted plot
and odd
chemistry between characters fogged over even those
radiant flashes. Exit Theatre, 156 Eddy; 421-8346.
$12. Fri-Sat, 8pm; also Mon/15, 8pm. Through April
3. (Foley)
