Ambivalent Geneses

by Anna Mantzaris

Imagine feeling like the only person still alive on the face of the earth. No, we're not talking about that Twilight Zone episode, but Sarah McKereghan's Ambivalent Geneses. Thea (Bernadette Quattrone) has been wandering the country, postapocalypse, craving companionship and sex with a guy for a year-and-a-half without running into a soul – until she hits a campsite in the rubble that was once San Francisco and finds Jeremy (Ryan Oden), a lonely and devout Christian who's been chatting up a God who doesn't allow for a two-way conversation. Even as sole woman and man on earth, Thea and Jeremy have trouble sharing a can of beans without duking it out about everything from homosexuality to end-of-the-world theories to gender issues, but things take an interesting turn after tensions start to ease.
