2012 San Francisco Fringe Festival (September 5 - 16)

The San Francisco Fringe Festival is a premiere opportunity for Indie theater artists to produce their own work and earn 100% of the Box Office. As an open access festival we invite all to apply. The Fringe is a highly competitive opportunity to present a professional, audience -ready, rites secured production.

Please do not apply if you are not available to perform for the entire 12 days of the festival, Sept. 5 - 16th and be available for a technical rehearsal between Sept. 1st-4th. We will do our best to schedule tech rehearsals for Non Local companies as close to the opening of the Fringe as possible.


This year's lottery for Standard Venue applicants will include 2 categories, Local (25 slots available) and Non-Local, (15 slots available). If you are a company from outside of the United States you will need to supply proof of your legal right to work and earn money in the U.S. Please note the San Francisco Fringe Festival is not able to secure this for you.
All Non Traditional Fringe Venue applications (NTFV's) must be for site specific work.


APPLICATION INFORMATION

  • ALL Applications to the San Francisco Fringe Festival must be submitted online. Standard Venue Applications are due by midnight February 3, 2012. Non-Traditional Venue Applications are due by May 31, 2012.
  • Only ONE application may be submitted per individual/company.
  • ALL Standard Fringe Venue performers -- local and non-local -- will be selected by a public lottery at EXIT Theatre at 7pm on February 11, 2012.
  • The Non Traditional Fringe Venue application is only for site specific work and must meet the NTFV guidelines.

All applicants to the SF Fringe Festival must pay a $35 Application Fee. This will be charged to your credit card when you apply. If you are selected in the lottery to perform in a Standard Venue at the 2012 San Francisco Fringe Festival there are sliding scale fees ranging from $425 to $700 depending on size of venue and length of show.

If your proposal for a NTFV slot is accepted there is a $350 Performance Fee. The Performance Fee will be charged to your credit card only if you are selected to perform in the festival.

VENUE INFORMATION

 

Local companies in Standard Venues receive four performance slots and non-local companies receive six performance slots. Eighty percent of the performance slots available are for shows up to 60 minutes. Twenty percent of the performance slots are for shows up to 90 minutes. Venues range from 40 to 80 seats. Performance fees range from $425 to $700 depending upon size of venue and length of show.

IMPORTANT DATES for Standard Fringe Venue Applicants

  • December 1, 2011 until 12:00am(Midnight) February 3th 2012: Standard Venue Applications will be accepted
  • 7:00 PM, February 11th, 2012: Standard Venue Participants and the Wait List will be drawn at the Fringe Lottery Party - at EXIT Theatre (156 Eddy Street)
  • April 27th, 2012: Last day for Standard Venue participants to withdraw and receive 50% refund of Application fee.
  • September 5-16, 2012: 21st Annual SF Fringe Festival

The intent for Non-Traditional Fringe Venue applications is for site specific work only. Over the years the SF Fringe has hosted shows presented on moving buses, in local parks, bars and cabarets, at the planetarian and the tulip garden in Golden Gate Park, and on a Market Street park bench. Proposals must be approved by the SF Fringe. The SF Fringe will not judge the artistic nature of a project but rather its viability as an NTFV.

IMPORTANT DATES for NTFV Applicants

  • May 31st, 2012 at 12:00am Pacific Time (Midnight): Last day NTFV Applications will be accepted
  • June 15th, 2012: Last day for NTFVs to withdraw and receive 50% refund of Application fee.
  • September 5-16, 2012: 21st Annual SF Fringe Festival

ALL FRINGE COMPANIES PROVIDE:

  • A fully prepared, professional, audience-ready, rights secured, production
  • All Fringe materials (i.e. contractual, technical, promotional, etc.) ON TIME when requested. The Fringe reserves the right to cancel a company if they do not meet this requirement.
  • A set ticket price of no more than $10 (rounded to the nearest dollar).
  • All your travel/food/ production/royalties/union fees/misc. expenses.
  • Your own specific promotional and publicity materials including press releases, posters, postcards, on-site promotions, flyers, and anything else that will help draw attention to your show.

COMPANIES IN EXIT THEATRE VENUES ALSO PROVIDE:

  • Any and all additional technical equipment not available at the venue (ie. projectors, microphones, fog machines, keyboards, etc.)
  • Availability to perfrom the entire 12 days of the festival and be available from Sunday September 2nd to Tuesday September 4th for a tech rehearsal (we will try to schedule non-local companies on either Monday or Tuesday.)

COMPANIES IN NON TRADITIONAL FRINGE VENUES (SITE SPECIFIC WORK) ALSO PROVIDE:

  • An appropriate site for your production with a signed agreement.
  • ANY & ALL staffing and technical equipment.

THE FRINGE FESTIVAL PROVIDES FOR ALL FRINGE SHOWS:

  • Inclusion in the Fringe program guide, website and overall event publicity. A detailed program and publicity questionnaire will be sent to all companies after securing a slot
  • A Fringe Festival Publicist who will promote the overall festival.
  • And, most importantly, companies receive 100% of their box office earnings.

AND FOR COMPANIES IN EXIT THEATRE VENUES WE PROVIDE:

  • 4 performances for local performers, 6 for non-local performers, scheduled in rotation in the venue of their choice over the 12 days of the festival.
  • Standard Venues are outfitted with a stationary lighting plot and basic sound equipment; a venue floor plan and spec sheet will be made available after your venue confirmation. VENUE INFORMATION AND DIAGRAMS
  • The Fringe provides one technician for your production. The Technician usually operates the lighting board and may run sound depending on the number of cues. It is required that every company supply a stage manager and any additional operators needed by their production.
  • All front of house staff (i.e. Box office, usher & house manager)
