Dear Fringe 2007 Performers,

I wanted to give you all a basic description of what is available for lighting.
Some of you are ready to know all of the lighting specifics - some of you are not. To those who are not, read over the information and please keep it until you are ready to deal with lighting.

You will have:

- A FRONT WASH - made up of 5 different area's - (DR, DC, DL, UR, UL) The lights can all be independently controlled to create a soft isolation in all of the previously mentioned areas. In small theatres, isolations are never perfect so think of it more as a focus shift as opposed to a way of blacking out the rest of the stage. The front wash will be a standard pale amber.

- A BACK WASH - made up of two light for L and R. These will not be independently controlled so they will all come up together. The back wash will be a saturated lavender. (EXIT Theatre and EXIT on Taylor have three back wash lights, L, C and R)

- A RED WASH - Made up of two lights that are a primary Red. Alone the red Wash does not completely cover the stage, but it will cover most of the stage.

- A BLUE WASH - Made up of two lights that are a saturated Blue. Alone the Blue Wash does not completely cover the stage, but it will cover most of the stage.

All of the previously mentioned lights are standard for every show. During your tech rehearsal we will show you six additional specials from which you may choose four for your specific show.

The six choices are -

R SPECIAL - This is a hard focused SR Special. It's looks like a static spot light.
C SPECIAL - This is a hard focused C Special. It's looks like a static spot light.
L SPECIAL - This is a hard focused SL Special. It's looks like a static spot light.
Side R - This will be a saturated amber light that is hung Stage Right and directed toward Stage Left
Side L - This will be a saturated amber light that is hung Stage Left and directed toward Stage Right
Shinbuster - This is a floor mounted light that has the potential to move anywhere on the stage floor during you 15 minutes load-in and out. You can also change the color of this light during the load-in and out. It's most comfortable home is DL. If you would like to move it to another location, please let me know in advance so I can make sure to have enough cable ready for your tech rehearsal.

Please feel free to ask me any questions. I realize that for some of you this will be very intuitive and to some it will be like complex calculous. I promise not to judge. At the beginning of every tech rehearsal your fringe provided technician will show you all of your lighting options. The Fringe staff have been doing this for a very long time and are happy to lend a hand when it comes to writing cues and making suggestions. Please know that (with the exception of the Shinbuster) no light can move or change color. Any additional lighting should be discussed and approved by me far in advance. That's it for now, thank you and have a nice day.

Thank you,
your friendly neighborhood Fringe Festival Production Manager,
Amanda
