treasured performers: How Lovely to Be a Woman, a one-woman
show written by and starring DeeDee Queen; Lady Sings the Blues, a
sultry night of burlesque chanteuses; For Sinners Only, featuring all
the best burlesque sinners who are taking the heat for you; and a

EXIT THE KING
by Eugene Ionesco
translated by Donald Watson
directed by Stuart Bousel
King Berenger clings to life like he clung to his scepter but one-byone
his faculties, staff, and two wives are taken from him until he
has no choice but to die, as we all must, alone. But will he die at
peace? Directed by Stuart Bousel, Ionesco’s celebrated Exit the King
returns to EXIT Theatre in a vibrant new production that shows us
how to look Death in the eye, laugh in Death’s face, and go quietly
into the long night whether we’ve lived gracefully or not.
March 16 thru April 7, 2018
UNDISCOVERED WORKS: THE WORKSHOP
In a collaboration with Custom Made Theatre Company, the
EXIT hosts this annual workshop showcasing the best of their
Undiscovered Works series, a year-long play development program
focused on local writers. This small scale, limited run production
will include the chance to offer feedback to the writer and will
give the audience a window into the exciting world of new play
development!
April 6 thru April 14, 2018
CONGRESSWOMEN
from the play by Aristophanes
freely adapted and directed by Stuart Bousel
Congresswomen is Stuart Bousel’s revamp of Aristophanes’
outrageously cynical sex and politics romp, chronicling one
community’s attempt to overhaul its corrupt power structure and
save itself from ruin. But is such a thing possible when humans are
their own worst enemy? Better known as the author of Lysistrata
and The Frogs, Aristophanes brings us his most caustic social satire
and Bousel brings it into the 21st century while retaining all its
perverse and subversive glory
May 3 thru May 26, 2018
SAN FRANCISCO OLYMPIANS FESTIVAL: Roman Holiday
The San Francisco Olympians Festival returns for a ninth year
of dramatic readings and new play development with 28 plays
exploring the legends and myths of Imperial Rome. Featuring
the first serial play in the festival’s history, writers from all
over the Bay Area and beyond, and many other surprises, this
important new works festival once more demonstrates the
power of ancient ideas to illuminate modern stories.
